Professional Advancement and Networking
Our Chapter offers monthly meetings that include educational programs for members, prospective members, and guests, and invaluable networking opportunities with colleagues. We host the almost-monthly audioconference programs produced by AFP International (IHQ) that offer presentations from world-class experts. Our Chapter provides a bi-annual Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) Review Course that offers experienced fundraising professionals an opportunity to review the main components of a complete fundraising program. Members also find professional growth and networking opportunities by serving alongside their colleagues on our Chapter committees.

As an AFP member, you have access to a wide-range of other programs and services offered by IHQ. These include basic through advanced education in fundraising principles and practice, research related to the profession and non-profit organizations, and the outstanding bi-monthly magazine, Advancing Philanthropy. IHQ's website, www.afpnet.org, and its weekly AFP eWire email newsletter provide timely and relevant information and news. In addition, IHQ's extensive library is an amazing source of books, videos, articles, brochures, and other research on the latest fundraising practices. IHQ also offers a free, confidential consulting service on ethical dilemmas faced by members on the job. It's all just a toll-free call or an email away!
Discounts, Scholarships and Fellowships
Your AFP membership gives you discount rates on our Chapter's monthly meetings and our audioconferences. It also gives you discount rates on IHQ programs such as the AFP International Conference and online professional development courses. Our Chapter provides scholarships to members attending the International Conference and other local, regional, and national educational programs. In addition, in a special effort to help diversify our membership and the profession, our AFP Fellows Program provides discounted rates and one-to-one mentoring to fundraisers from our local communities of color.
Chapter Member-to-Member Communication
All Chapter members receive a directory containing profiles of each member, including their special areas of expertise. We offer our local listserv, a free subscription email service that allows members to be part of electronic group discussions with other members. The listserv and membership directory make it easy to contact colleagues when you have information to share or questions to ask. You may request an electronic copy of our membership database at no charge. We publish a chapter newsletter, Developments, three times a year, and host a local Chapter Web site at www.madisonafp.com.
Employment Opportunities
Through our listserv and IHQ's eWire newsletter, AFP members receive frequent information about position openings in the local community and nationwide, from entry-level to the most senior opportunities. These are targeted tools you can use when your organization is looking for fundraising professionals. You can also post your job announcements and resume on the IHQ website.
Public Policy
Through IHQ's Government Affairs staff and Political Action Committee, AFP works to advance and protect the best interests of fundraising and the nonprofit sector whenever related laws and regulations are developed.
Advancing Philanthropy in Our Community
Through volunteer work on our strategic initiatives, Chapter members can join in collective action - together with our community partners - to develop and implement new initiatives that will sustain and extend Greater Madison's culture of generosity well into the 21st Century. Through volunteer work on our Philanthropy Day Committee, members can help educate the public on the vital role that philanthropy, the nonprofit sector, and our profession play in sustaining our community's quality of life.
