Title: Communications and Events Coordinator

Job Status: Non-exempt, regular, full-time (40 hours)

Reports To: Executive Director

Position Description

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Communications and Events Coordinator works to advance NAMI Dane County’s mission by supporting the organization’s communication efforts, development efforts, and coordinating fundraising and mission-related events.

NAMI Dane County is the founding chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by mental illness. We provide education and support, community outreach and education, advocacy, and public awareness to ensure all people affected by mental illness in Dane County find the help, hope, and support they need.


  • Assist in the updating and execution of an overall communications strategy, including but not limited to website, social media, newsletters, press releases, donor appeals, and recognition

  • Manage creation, production, and dissemination of printed publications, including but not limited to: annual report, newsletters, press releases, brochures, and event invitations

  • Manage creation and selection of photography for print and electronic communications

  • Support the development and execution of NAMI Dane County’s identity and style guide

  • Assist in fundraising efforts including the cultivation and retention of all donor types: individuals, foundations, and corporations

  • Manage fundraising procedures and operations, including NAMI Dane County’s donor database and donor acknowledgements

  • Handle internal processes and procedures related to donor management

  • Coordinate fundraising events, including the annual Awards Banquet and Gala and NAMIWalks, as well as mission-related events like bi-monthly program meetings, events committee, and volunteer events

  • Represent NAMI Dane County in a variety of settings including civic groups, donor third party events, and workplace giving

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest in and passion for NAMI’s mission to provide education, support, and advocacy for people affected by mental illness

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of three years nonprofit experience in some combination of development, fundraising, marketing, event planning, and communications

  • Mastery of Google Drive, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, Mailchimp, and social media platforms

  • Self-starter with excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and manage competing deadlines with attention to detail

  • Quick learner with the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment while adapting quickly to changing needs of the organization

  • Skilled in data entry and producing reports

  • Solid understanding of fundraising ethics and principles, donor stewardship, and accountability

  • Ability to work well with NAMI Dane County’s various constituent groups, including members, participants, staff, events committee, donors, and Board of Directors

  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends for special events

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience soliciting funding from a variety of sources, including foundations, businesses, individuals, civic organizations, and special events

  • Squarespace website management skills

  • Familiarity with the Dane County philanthropic community

Compensation and Benefits

Salary ranges between $40,000 to $45,000, plus retirement contributions, health insurance stipend, paid time off, and flexible scheduling. There is a six-month probationary period.
